With emphasis on climate change

White House Approval of the CSSR

As reported last week my understanding is that issuance of the Climate Science Special Report (CSSR) was approved by the White House. Approval reportedly came at a meeting chaired by Gary Cohn, the Director of the National Economic Council and chief economic adviser to President Trump. He previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Goldman Sachs from 2006 to 2017. He reportedly argued that it had to be approved because of the legal requirements for the issuance of such a report. I gather that climate skeptics had a limited presence at the meeting, but I have not seen the attendance list.

For the reasons I explained last week, I strongly disagree with the decision. Some have pointed out that since no one has so far even been nominated to head the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), there was no one at the meeting who could authoritatively speak for the Office even though OSTP has the overall responsibility for the Congressionally required report.

Terrific detective work, Dr. carlin. The plot thickens.
If Mr. Cohn were loyal to the President’s agenda, he would have held the report.
Cohn instead seems to work against the agenda. He reputedly deplored the Presidents balanced remarks about Charlottesville. Global Gary favored the US participating in the Paris climate guff. Some insider invited carbon tax salesmen into the White House. Now that Cohn has revealed his disloyalty, Trump passed him over for the Federal Reserve gig.
Perhaps some day, General Kelly will be obliged to evict Cohn. He is not helping.
